I know the answer to my last question! NO!
If you recall, I asked the age-old question (?), will tomorrow be fruitful? I suppose that depends on how you define fruitful. I define it by having lots of newly constructed objects in the kitchen to post on this blog. Therefore, my day yesterday was not fruitful. Here you will see a picture of the drawers I built yesterday all lined up in Paul and Liz's living room (this is the house where the shop is located).
They are not, however, in Steph's kitchen. To tell you the truth, yesterday I expected to have the whole shelving unit finished let alone the drawers installed. Here is a computerized 3D rendering of what the shelves should look like - as they like to emphasize on Property Brothers (a reno reality show), as if computer renderings are novel in 2012.
Although I have to admit, I do think computer renderings are pretty cool. I just find it hilarious how excited they get when they see their future home in digital format. I mean, haven't they seen Jurassic Park? That movie was made in 1993, and the graphics are far more advanced. But who knows, maybe host Jonathan just downloaded the software and is really stoked on it. Fair enough.
So these shelves didn't get built yesterday. They each have to be custom fit because the chimney is not exactly square. I cut one out, determined it needed adjusting and then just decided to finish the drawers instead. I don't know HOW building 7 drawers took me all day, but maybe the blizzard had something to do with it.
That's what St. John's looked like last night at 8pm when I loaded the drawers. It snowed about 25cms. The worst thing about the snow was that it kept getting stuck in the front door and it wouldn't close properly so I couldn't lock it, which resulted in a lot of swearing. I was really hungry and tired. Next time I'll bring a snack to the shop.
Speaking of swearing, this morning I wanted to install the drawers before I picked Steph up from the airport so that it would look like I did something while she was away. It should take about 5 minutes per drawer. Wrong! First, I realized I cut my spacer out by an inch last night (obviously because I was tired and cranky), so I had to drive back to the shop and cut it . Then...I'm not really sure what happened, but the drawers didn't go in smoothly. Maybe it was because I had too much coffee and not enough breakfast, but they just weren't cooperating. Anyway, after much swearing, they aren't perfect, but they are in!
Hahaha. Just kidding.
That's it. The 7th drawer is not in do to a misplaced rail. I will deal with that later.
